TORPEDO

Special media

Vaporizers for almost any gas, sized to suit the medium and the system.

In addition to vaporizers for liquefied gases similar to propane, such as butane, propylene, butadiene and DME, and for ammonia, our product range also includes units and systems for vaporizing special gases such as sulphur dioxide, chlorine and CO₂, as well as methanol and other media.

We do not build these units in series production, but as a special version to customer specification. Depending on the physical and corrosive properties of the medium and the requirements of the system, we design suitable solutions for almost any requirement. The units are based on the same designs as our propane and ammonia vaporizers and are adapted to the respective medium in terms of pressure rating, materials, seals and safety devices. Depending on the case, we carry out a separate conformity assessment to Module B + F or a unit verification to Module G for special models. We do not offer ambient-air vaporizers for cryogenic gases such as oxygen, nitrogen or argon (why?).

Methanol vaporizer type ETM with safety valve and pressure gauge

Methanol is liquid at ambient conditions and only boils at 64.7 °C at atmospheric pressure. Unlike propane or ammonia, methanol is an alcohol, so there is no gas pressure that pushes the medium to the consumer by itself. If methanol is needed in gaseous form, it must be heated in a heated vaporizer to above its boiling temperature at the respective operating pressure. To prevent the vapour from condensing again on its way to the consumer, we bring it to a defined temperature above the boiling temperature; the line to the consumer should also be short, insulated or heated.

For small throughputs and the high temperatures required in heat treatment, we offer the methanol vaporizer type ETM. It is indirectly electrically heated and designed for 2 to 12 litres of methanol per hour, which corresponds to around 1.6 to 9.5 kg/h.

Methanol vapour is used, for example, in the heat treatment of steel. In the nitrogen-methanol process, methanol cracks in the hot furnace into carbon monoxide and hydrogen and, together with nitrogen, forms a protective atmosphere. The methanol can be supplied in pre-vaporized form.

Methanol is highly flammable and toxic. We therefore design materials and safety devices for the medium and the conditions at the installation site. As the units are intended for operation in the immediate vicinity of the furnace, an Ex-rated version is not provided. Tell us the required throughput in l/h or kg/h, the outlet pressure, the required gas temperature and the conditions at the installation site, and we will size the right vaporizer for you.
