As work equipment subject to inspection, cranes, lifting equipment and lifting accessories, as well as the tensioning devices used for load securing, must be inspected before first use and periodically thereafter. The result of the inspection must be documented. The inspected item can be fitted with an inspection sticker that shows the next inspection date.
The rules of the German Social Accident Insurance (DGUV) and the German Ordinance on Industrial Safety and Health (BetrSichV) are intended to reduce the risks for persons who work with cranes, lifting equipment or load securing equipment. In the case of load securing, they protect the driver, vehicle, load and uninvolved third parties.
Rules and regulations
- DGUV Regulations 52/53 (cranes) and 54/55 (winches, lifting and pulling devices), DGUV Principle 309-001 (inspection of cranes) and, for lifting accessories, DGUV Rule 109-017 describe the components to be inspected and the inspection procedures.
- BetrSichV makes inspection mandatory (Section 14). For cranes, Annex 3, Section 1 specifies who inspects and at what intervals: as a rule at least annually by a competent person (befähigte Person), before initial commissioning usually by an approved inspection expert (Prüfsachverständiger).
- Winches, lifting and pulling devices are also subject to at least annual inspection (DGUV Regulation 54, Section 23), and lifting accessories to DGUV Rule 109-017. For load securing, the scope of inspection and intervals result from Section 14 BetrSichV and the risk assessment.
- The Technical Rules for Operational Safety TRBS 1201 and TRBS 1203 specify the inspections and the requirements for competent persons in more detail.
Stand-alone service
